蹤獲扦 alumni who served as editor of the Daily 蹤獲扦r each faced the challenge of covering the anniversary of May 4, 1970, when Ohio National Guardsmen shot and killed four students and wounded nine others during a Vietnam War protest.

In accordance with the order of Amy Acton, M.D., director of Ohio Department of Health, to stay at home to slow the spread of COVID-19, and in the interest of the health and safety of the community, 蹤獲扦 regretfully announces cancellation of the May 4 50th Commemoration Weekend events, scheduled to take place May 1-4, 2020.
蹤獲扦 Panel Discussion Brings Together Leaders Who Were Impacted by Campus Violence
On Thursday, March 12, 蹤獲扦s College of Education, Health and Human Services will host Leading Through Tragedy, an event that brings together a panel of leaders who were impacted by campus violence from institutions such as Virginia Tech, Northern Illinois University and Chardon High School in Ohio.

Dean Kahler, one of the nine 蹤獲扦 students wounded in the May 4, 1970, shootings by the Ohio National Guard, will return to campus on Saturday, May 9, to serve as speaker for the One University Commencement. Thomas Grace, Ph.D., another of the nine wounded students, will serve as speaker for the Advanced Degree Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 8.

Statement of the May 4 50th Commemoration Advisory Committee on Its Decision to Include Jane Fonda in the Commemoration Program
The May 4 50th Commemoration Advisory Committee appreciates the personal and meaningful responses we have received about the inclusion of activist Jane Fonda as one of several keynote speakers at the 50th Commemoration of the 蹤獲扦 shooting. 蹤獲扦 invites educators of students in grades 6-12 to apply by March 1 for its Landmarks of American History and Culture workshop, Making Meaning of May 4: The 1970 蹤獲扦 Shootings in U.S. History. Co-directors Laura Davis, Ph.D., Professor Emerita of English and former founding director of the May 4 Visitors Center, and Todd Hawley, Ph.D., associate professor of social studies teacher education, were awarded $170,000 in funding by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to create this workshop.
