While student voting nationwide doubled since 2014, the ������ student voting rate has increased 135% from 2014 to 2018, according to a recent report from the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement, conducted by the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education at Tufts University’s Tisch College of Civic Life.

One of ������’s most prolific and renowned researchers has been elected to the European Academy of Sciences. Quan Li, Ph.D., Senior Research Fellow in ������’s Advanced Materials and Liquid Crystal Institute, joins the prestigious Brussels-based organization that has about 660 members from 45 nations, including 65 Nobel Prize and Fields Medal winners.

From Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, different countries, cities and communities around the world – including the ������ community –  have been celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. As ������’s population of Hispanic and Latino students continues to grow each year, students, faculty, organizations and departments are taking the time to acknowledge the month through a series of discussion, events, dancing and even theatrical plays.

Love, loss and hope. These are three critical elements Maria Jacobs brings – along with her considerable professional experience – to the ������ community. Jacobs is a part-time instructor in the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music and a nationally known jazz singer.

Even ������’s highest-ranking officials can experience a tug on their loyalties when the Golden Flashes take on their alma maters in athletic contests. President Todd Diacon, his wife, Moema Furtado, and head football coach Sean Lewis all will experience that dual loyalty on Saturday when ������ faces the University of Wisconsin-Madison at noon at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.

������ alumnus Andre Knott’s experience in journalism ranges from sideline reporting for the Cleveland Browns to telecasts for the Cleveland Indians on SportsTime Ohio to covering Cleveland sports on the radio. Now, he joins WJW FOX 8 as a new contributor to the station’s sports team. He will provide reports, features and live coverage of Cleveland sports on all FOX 8 platforms while he continues his Cleveland Indians broadcast work at SportsTime Ohio. 

In the spring of 1970, two-time ������ alumna and registered nurse Pat Gless was a junior in ������’s inaugural nursing program. While in class on Monday, May 4, a professor rushed into her classroom and warned students who could leave campus to do so. Fifty years later, Gless now reflects on the events surrounding that tragedy and how they have impacted her life and nursing career.

������ field hockey coach Kyle DeSandes-Moyer is pleased to announce the signing of 10-year-old Mary Alice Tryda through Team IMPACT to the ������ field hockey team.

The (NSF) recently awarded ������ a three-year, $298,000 International Research Experience for Students (IRES) grant that will allow graduate students to travel to in Japan to study primates and human evolution at the world-renowned .

In April 2019, ������ welcomed Neil Cooper, Ph.D, as the new inaugural director of ������'s School of Peace and Conflict Studies. The School of Peace and Conflict Studies was originally called the Center for Peaceful Change when it was founded in 1971 as the university's first ‘living memorial’ for the events that occurred on May 4th, 1970.

������ Graduate Taylor Pendrith, ‘14, earned the Canada Life Candian Player of the Year honors on the Mackenzie Tour -- PGA TOUR Canada on Sunday, Sept. 15. This is Pendrith’s second time receiving the honor in the past four years.

The pathway from a two-year college to ������ will soon become an easier road to travel for Ohio students, thanks to a grant awarded to ������ to collaborate with three Ohio community colleges to streamline the transfer process.
