蹤獲扦 Researcher to Work on Program to Broaden Participation in Computer Science

Information technology drives our global economy and promises transformational approaches to the worlds most serious challenges, including healthcare, education and environmental. Yet a smaller percentage of American high school and university students take computer science courses today than they did 20 years ago. L. Gwenn Volkert, associate professor of computer science at 蹤獲扦, has been selected to participate in the second phase of a national effort aimed at increasing and broadening participation in computer science.

The 蹤獲扦 Board of Trustees will hold its next regular business meeting Wednesday, Sept. 18. The meeting will be held in the new 蹤獲扦 Hotel and Conference Center in downtown Kent. The Board will convene at 2 p.m. in the McGilvrey Conference Room on the lobby level. Trustees will retire into executive session at 8 a.m. in the Presidents Boardroom on the second floor of the hotel to consider specific topics as provided for under Ohios Sunshine Law. Board committees will meet as follows:

蹤獲扦 Sets New Enrollment Record, Welcoming Largest and Highest-Achieving Freshman Class at Its Kent Campus

For the Fall 2013 Semester, 蹤獲扦 has set a new record, attracting the biggest and highest-achieving freshman class at the Kent Campus in the universitys 103-year history. With the release of the universitys official 15th day census data for the Fall 2013 Semester, 蹤獲扦 reports the total number of first-time, full-time freshmen enrolled at the Kent Campus is 4,314. This exceeds last years freshman class count of 4,076 by 5.8 percent. It also surpasses the record set in 2011 of 4,284.

蹤獲扦s Department of Public Safety Will Initiate Fire/Emergency Evacuation Drills on Sept. 11

On Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m., 蹤獲扦's Department of Public Safety will test the emergency notification system on the Kent Campus. The purpose of this annual exercise is to familiarize students and employees with building evacuations and precautions to be taken in event of a fire or any other type of emergency.

Fun at the Black Squirrel Festival

The 32nd Annual Black Squirrel Festival took place Friday, Sept. 6, from 2-8 p.m. at the Kent Campus on the Student Green and Risman Plaza. The Black Squirrel Festival is one of 蹤獲扦s most beloved and popular traditions that attracts more than 3,000 students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the Kent community. As usual, live, free entertainment, festival food, local vendors and Black Squirrel spirit were all a part of this years event. The movie Monsters University also was shown that evening on the Student Green.

蹤獲扦 Airport Hosts Second Annual Props-4-Paws Fall Food Drive

The 蹤獲扦 Airport is holding its second annual Props-4-Paws animal food drive, running now through Nov. 17, with a special collection on Sept.

In observance of Veterans Day, 蹤獲扦 will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

  • The University Library will be open until 10 p.m. with .
  • The Student Recreation and Wellness Center will have adjusted hours  8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Ohio is conducting a statewide tornado drill at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18. 蹤獲扦 will be participating in this test.

蹤獲扦 Remembers May 4, 1970, With 56th Commemoration

This years May 4 Commemoration, to be held May 1-4, 2026, will include special remembrances of John Cleary, one of the nine wounded students, and Jerry M. Lewis, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who served as a faculty marshal during the campus shootings and worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of May 4 would endure.
