Architecture Students Redesign Local City Following Downtown Fire

On March 22, 2014, a massive fire swept through historic Garrettsville, Ohio, destroying an entire commercial block and 13 businesses. Residents in the quaint Portage County village of just over 2,200 people immediately began pulling together, with efforts to relocate the local food bank, which was consumed in the blaze. Some business owners promised to rebuild, but it was clear that the tragedy dramatically changed the character of the village forever.

Summer Commencement Ceremonies Occur Saturday

蹤獲扦 will hold its summer Commencement ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center). 蹤獲扦 will confer 1,636 degrees, including 851 bachelors degrees, 462 masters degrees, 74 doctoral degrees, 227 associate degrees and 22 educational specialist degrees. The 9:30 a.m. ceremony is for those receiving bachelors degrees. The speaker for this ceremony is Alejandro Galioto, CEO and founder of True-Course Aviation Insurance, based near Los Angeles, California.

Google Maps Street View Visits 蹤獲扦

A crew from Google Maps visited the Kent Campus for two days to take more than 4,600 photos of areas on campus, including those that are not accessible by vehicle.

ADVISORY: 蹤獲扦 Board of Trustees Special Meeting, Aug. 11

The 蹤獲扦 Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting Monday, Aug. 11, at 9 a.m. in the George Urban Board of Trustees Conference Room, which is located on the second floor of the Kent Campus Library. Trustees will retire into executive session upon convening to consider specific topics as provided for under Ohios Sunshine Law. No standing committee meetings will be held, and no recommendations or votes will be discussed or taken. The Board will hold its next, regular business meeting Wednesday, Sept. 17. # # #

Golden Flashes Continue Success in the Classroom

蹤獲扦s student-athletes continued their run of success in the classroom during the spring of 2014 by posting the third highest term grade point average (GPA) in recorded history. The athletic department finished with a 3.085 spring GPA, a number that ranks behind only a 3.11 in the spring of 2013 and a 3.10 in the spring of 2012. The departments current cumulative GPA of 3.139 remains the highest in recorded history.

In observance of Veterans Day, 蹤獲扦 will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

  • The Student Recreation and Wellness Center will have adjusted hours  8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Statewide Tornado Drill to Be Conducted Wednesday, March 18

Ohio is conducting a statewide tornado drill at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18. 蹤獲扦 will be participating in this test.

蹤獲扦 Remembers May 4, 1970, With 56th Commemoration

This years May 4 Commemoration, to be held May 1-4, 2026, will include special remembrances of John Cleary, one of the nine wounded students, and Jerry M. Lewis, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who served as a faculty marshal during the campus shootings and worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of May 4 would endure.
